The Hamilton Medical Officer of Health has identified an estimated Lyme disease risk area in the City of Hamilton. Lyme disease is an illness caused by the bacteria, Borrelia burgdorferi. This bacteria is passed onto people and pets through the bite of a blacklegged tick (also called a deer tick) that can also carry the bacteria.
While the risk of human infection from Lyme disease in Hamilton remains low, there are precautions you can take. The attached document, prepared by the City of Hamilton Public Health Services, provides recommendations for preventative actions.
