The Holy Eucharist

After Jesus died and rose again He stayed on earth for 40 days and then He went into Heaven. But He did not want to leave us alone so He left us the Holy Eucharist. The Holy Eucharist is the Body of Jesus. Jesus gave the priests the power to turn a piece of bread into His Body. This happens at the Mass. When the priest says the words, “For this is my Body, which will be given up for you” the bread turns into Jesus. It is no longer bread, it is now Jesus. But why does it still look like bread and taste like bread? It still looks like bread and tastes like bread because Jesus is hiding Himself. We might be scared if we saw Jesus’ actual Body that we are receiving.

Jesus loves us so much that He wants to be with us and come into our hearts. That is why He gave us the Holy Eucharist. The Holy Eucharist is kept inside of the Church in a golden box called the Tabernacle. We can visit Jesus anytime we like.

During the month of June we honour the Holy Eucharist in a special way during the Feast of Corpus Christi. Corpus Christi is the Latin word for the Body of Christ. This year the Feast of Corpus Christi was celebrated on June 3rd.

The Holy Eucharist is the Body of Jesus. In the Church at Mass, the priest says some special words and raises up the bread and it changes into the Body of Jesus. It still looks like bread but it is really Jesus. Jesus hides himself so we will not be afraid to receive Him.

The Holy Eucharist is kept in a golden box in the Church. This box is called the Tabernacle. Jesus loves us so much that He wants to stay with us in our Churches and to come into our hearts every time we go to Church.
